Summary of the presentation:

The stereotype of ADHD as a hyperactive boy left millions of girls undiagnosed and navigating school, careers, relationships, and motherhood carrying a heavy burden they couldn’t quite name. Diagnosed along the way with anxiety, depression and addictions, those girls – now midlife and older women – are finally realizing the culprit all along was quiet ADHD.  Drawing on research, clinical practice and her extensive expertise, Dr. Rollhaus explains the different ways ADHD affects girls and women, how the way we socialize our kids impacts what they show us versus what they conceal, and makes it crystal clear in hindsight why traditional diagnostic methods were never going to work.  She teaches how to recognize the subtle ways ADHD shows up for girls and women, how to be more effective as a diagnostician and therapist, and to be aware of considerations for stimulant use during pregnancy, perimenopause, and beyond.

Presenter Bio:

Dr. Esther Rollhaus envisions a world where mental health and reproductive care go hand in hand. She is a reproductive psychiatrist in private practice in Riverdale, NY and the creator of the "Hormones are the Headline" Online Professional Institute. She is also licensed in New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Florida where she serves patients via telehealth. She is a graduate of Stern College for Women with degrees in psychology and English, and attended the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai – one of only a handful of doctors selected specifically for her liberal arts background. Dr. Rollhaus has held consulting positions at Montefiore Einstein Psychiatry Associates, Under Five Trauma Services, and Achieve Behavioral Health, and she has taught in multiple adjunct professorships. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Rollhaus speaks to professional and community audiences, drawing on a background that spans adult, child, and adolescent psychiatry. Her focus areas include women's mental health across the lifespan, the intersection of hormones and mental health, attachment and early development, and psychiatric pharmacology in the perinatal period.
